Krabi Trip Part 1 : Sugar Marina Resort Cliffhanger @ Aonang

My housemates and I secured three return flight tickets to Krabi from Kuala Lumpur during the month of Ramadhan. We booked a two nights hotel stay at the newly renovated  Sugar Marina Resort located near Aonang Beach. And it was also close to a nearby mosque and many Halal eateries just a mere walking distance away.

We selected the Superior Pool Access Room located on the ground floor and had access to the outdoor pool via the outdoor patio. As an only girls trip, we delighted ourselves with a swim during the mornings and night time when there were lesser crowds. ☺

A view from our patio. All hotel pictures are from Agoda and 100% accurate.

This is how the room is accessible from the outdoor pool.

The ground floor rooms of the hotel.

We had a minor glitch during check-in when the hotel workers wouldn't let the third guest to enter the room unless we paid another USD40 per night. Another USD20 if it includes breakfast. Since I was fasting we didn't add the breakfast option. Their English was simple and at times hard to understand so we just paid up.

I was a bit frustrated about that as they failed to inform beforehand either via website or through the booking confirmation that any extra guest would be charged. But we paid anyways to avoid further discomfort.

After that little episode, we were shown to our rooms and felt instant relief that the room was spacious, free snacks in the mini fridge and enough towels for three in the room (which they added an extra pair later on upon request).

The unique decor at the lobby.

So far the resort has been great except for the loud construction still ongoing behind the pool. But its potential to go far is admirable. It is spanking new, clean and modern.

Breakfast at the resort.
I can't say much about the breakfast experience but my friends say that it was adequate with many choices. Most importantly it was halal.

So my overall rating for this hotel inclusive of the uncomfortable check-in experience...... drums rolling....

3.8 / 5...

Location wise, it was still quite far from Aonang Beach but the 20 minutes walk to get there was worthwhile with many SPA, Saloons and small stores to check near the road side. On the plus side, the eateries were divine and I loved the side food stalls! More on that later in the next posts. Till then.. bye!
