Well we might have encountered those type of drivers whom we dealt with beforehand upon arrival that takes us to places we don't want to go. Places where the paid drivers can get commission even-though it was not upon our wish to go there.
For example... dinner at Jimbaran. Beautiful place, yes. But is it totally worth it to spend a hefty sum for a seafood dinner albeit a beautiful sunset (which can be enjoyed at other parts of the island) ? When you can enjoy the same meal at a fraction of a price at Warung Mak Beng?
My advise, don't go spend money at places you don't want to. Plan an itinerary beforehand and deal with your driver or guide before agreeing on a price.
Here's a rough estimation on the standard prices of airport private transport (one way) in Bali:
Want to rent a private villa with own private pool? No problem. It can be arranged!
Maybe add on a cooking class, some outdoor activities like rafting, elephant rides (which I don't personally approve), water-sports or quad biking... no big deal! It can be arranged!
