Currently I have grown a liking to Bali, Indonesia and have been there 5 times in the past. Bali has the whole package for any type of traveler. From the beach goers to the culinary hunters and the nature lovers such as myself. And like my hometown Sabah, Bali also have the most beautiful sunsets around and fresh yet cheap seafood (if you know where to find 'em).
Besides that, with millions of tourists coming to Bali each year, you will never be short of accommodations in any part of Bali. Here are 4 hostels I would highly recommend depending on my purposes for staying there. All of my recommendations have an average of 8.9 score on Booking.com and here are the main options I seek when choosing a hostel :-
There's a cafe within the hostel's premises but I didn't get to try it because I ate else where. But the decor is instagrammable and quiet.
And here's the map showing how close it is to Eiger Store.
I chose this place because of the very cheap price and it also provides a female only dorm. Many other hostels around the area only had mix dorms. For the price of RM18 (on Agoda) which comes with free breakfast makes it ultimately a very good deal!
My score review on booking.com : 10.0

Here are 4 hostels I would highly recommend depending on my purposes for staying there. All of my recommendations have an average of 8.9 score on Booking.com and here are the main options I seek when choosing a hostel :-
- provides an all female dorm
- free breakfast included with price
- closeness to certain places (eateries, fav stores, beaches etc)
The only hostel in this list located in Seminyak. I chose this place because of its close proximity to my favorite Indonesian flagship store on Sunset Rd which is the famous EIGER store. It takes only a 7 minutes walk the store from the hostel. Good place to stare so that you can make several trips to the store for a shopping spree. Hehe. And the hostel is very comfortable with very big beds. My room was a three person female dorm as seen in the picture below. I loved the decor so much. The negative part - no breakfast is included with the price. Sold separately.
Kosta Hostel - Beautifully decorated with a boutique-likeness hotel. With dorms! |
There's a cafe within the hostel's premises but I didn't get to try it because I ate else where. But the decor is instagrammable and quiet.
Cozy cafe to eat or read a book. |
Price : RM38 ++ (single bed in a three beds female dorm)
Positive points : big comfy beds, pool, free WiFi, close to Sunset Rd, big private bathrooms, parking space available
Negative points : especially noisy during the night time as guests tend to be loud at the pool area
2. H-ostel Bali, Kuta Square Blok E 8, 80361 Kuta, Indonesia
I chose this hostel because it is located in the center of Kuta city center and a walking distance to Kuta and Segara Beach. And I had to check out their rooftop cafe.
The H-ostel's building is a colorful one and has a cute cafe in front as seen below.
My score review on booking.com : 9.6
My bed on the left and the simple free breakfast the next morning. |
Nicely decorated cafe in front. Not to be missed! |
My score review on booking.com : 9.6
Price : RM46++ (single bed in female dormitory on the second floor)
Positive points : excellent location, private bed, nice view from the rooftop where breakfast is served, free WiFi, in the center of Kuta, uses electronic bracelets to open lockers, motor parking available in front
Negative points : no soap in the showers
3. Beds Hostel by Soscomma, Jalan Pantai Kuta, 80361 Kuta, Indonesia
The single bed in a dorm. |
My score review on booking.com : 8.8
And... the breakfast was excellent! You get to choose between a western breakfast or a local one that includes rice and chicken.
Price : RM24++ (on booking.com)
Positive points : excellent location, private bed, excellent breakfast
Negative points : had problems with water heater in the attached bathroom in the female dorm
4. Beach Hut Hostel, Jalan Segara Merta 6, 80361 Kuta, Indonesia
Saving the last for best. I stayed two times at this hostel because I love the open space it provides and the hospitality of the people handling it. I found out that it is a local family run business who has a mix parentage of Balinese and Japanese. The idea for the construction was inspired by the beach huts on Brighton Beach of Melbourne. Despite the mosquitoes found during the evening, I love this place the best!
My room for the night. There were only two girls that day. |
The breakfast I had that morning with free iced tea! |
Price : RM35++ (on booking.com)
Positive points : excellent location, private bed with curtains, excellent breakfast, walking distance to international airport, parking space for my love to come pick me up and wait (ehh), very friendly hosts
Negative points : Nothing except some mosquitoes. But they provide the anti bug sprays though!
So there's my list of top 4 hostels that I've stayed in Bali. Maybe I'll try some more later as I've got a feeling I'll be visiting Bali a lot more often after this. Hehe. :P
